Madonna is said to be introducing Janet Jackson for her tribute to Michael at this year’s VMAs. This is huge. Madonna’s Janet Jackson VMAs introduction should be epic.
All people have been talking about this week is Janet’s tribute to her brother. It makes plenty of sense; MTV has and always will be one of the forces that helped make MJ who he was The music video is what brought the voice and the dance moves together, and beamed them around the world for people to see.
In fact, one of the most memorable opening acts in VMA history was Michael himself. He opened the show with a cluster of his biggest hits back in ’95, and that performance is probably the best in the history of the VMAs. This week, MTV even hinted that the tribute could be a medley of MJ’s hits.
Speaking of Janet’s tribute to honor her recently deceased brother, word is that some of the absolute best in the business are involved in this one. MTV reports that the choreographers include: Wade Robson, Dave Scott, Cris Judd, Brian Friedman, Tyce Diorio, Travis Payne, Jeri Slaughter, Laurie Ann Gibson, Mia Michaels and Tina Landon. It should be amazing.
How rad is Madonna for staying relevant this long? I’m mean really, she’s in her 50’s, and can still light up the stage. Some of the best VMA performances belong to her (think cone shaped bra, on stage, more than twenty years ago). But you put her on stage with Janet—please, that’s unreal. I pretty sure it’s not going to simply be “Ladies and gentleman, Janet Jackson.” I’m holding out hope that Madge performs first, or that they even sing together.
We’ll see if Madonna and Janet Jackson take the stage together at the VMAs starting a 9pm EST on Sunday. Until then, I’ve thrown in some pictures of them performing, and a video of MJ’s famous VMAs performance below.
