"Men In Black" Project, circa 1990, DANGEROUS sessions (Michael Jackson); Bruce?
I am looking to ask a couple of questions to anyone that worked on Michael Jackson's DANGEROUS album, during the 1989 -1991 recording sessions.
Unfortunately, I have the sincere feeling the only person(s) on this forum who could answer these questions is either Bruce or Bill Bottrell. Anyway, regarding "Men In Black":
Q1: To what extent did the "Men In Black" project exist, circa 1990 recording sessions.
Q2: Did the track only reach the demo stage of production?
Q3: Who was involved in the project besides Michael? Teddy Riley?
I have talked personally to Jazzy B (of Soul II Soul) and he briefly gave me some insight into the project: He had a meeting with Michael back in 1990 to discuss producing the track. Maybe it was a demo at this stage?
HIStory of the "Men In Black" project:
I am asking specifically about this project because it was rumoured to be the LEAD SINGLE off 1991's Dangerous album, until ofcourse Michael wrote and recorded "Black or White" which took over from "Men In Black", according to Jazzy B (it was subsequently shelved in 1990).
During 1990, Michael continued working on the "Black or White" single. Well known to most avid MJ collectors, an early demo of "Black or White" was to be featured on an internal studio CD entitled "Promo Flight Only" featuring heavy metal guitars and no rap by Bottrell. More interesting is the fact that alongside this track was a demo of "Men In Black", and another titled "Too Much Monkey Business" (which was later released as simply "Monkey Business").
PROMO [Flight Only]
Just 10 copies of the "Promo Flight Only" CD were pressed back in '91, and specifically made for Sony BMG exectuvies to preview during a flight from London to Neverland Valley Ranch in 1991; it was a teaser for what was to come on the Dangerous album.
Any insight from Bruce or Bill (or anyone who worked on Dangerous) into this particular recording would be greatly appreciated. |
