As family members plan Michael's funeral, they also look for answers

LOS ANGELES -- A second autopsy on the body of Michael Jackson was completed today, sources say. The results of the examination are not known. The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Saturday that the Jackson family had requested an independent autopsy to determine the cause of the pop star's Thursday afternoon death.
Michael Jackson's body was released to his family last night and taken to a local mortuary. Members of the singer's family gathered at the Encino home of Jackson's mother and father to plan the singer's funeral as television trucks lined the neighborhood's curbs and news crews from around the world camped out nearby.
Vidal Herrera, owner of 1-800-AUTOPSY, one of the region's top private autopsy firms, told KTLA.com an undisclosed mortuary had contacted him Thursday night on behalf of the Jackson family to inquire about a second opinion on the pop star's death, even though Jackson's body was to be examined by the Los Angeles County Coroner. "We told them we would be available," he said.
Herrera, a former field investigator for the county coroner's office, said he explained to the funeral home that he only performs autopsies at his fully equipped Lincoln Heights facility. He said that might have prompted the family to go with a pathologist who would travel to more discreet locations. The autopsy examiner and location of the body have not been disclosed.
The Jackson family is looking for more answers about the singer's death. They want to know who was around Michael in the days before he died. They think it's possible that handlers from concert promoter AEG Live might have been with him, but it's not clear if this is the case. AEG was organizing a multimillion-dollar series of 50 Jackson concerts in London that were slated to begin next month.
Jesse Jackson today issued a statement from the family that reads, in part: "In one of the darkest moments of our lives we find it hard to find the words appropriate to this sudden tragedy we all had to encounter. Our beloved son, brother and father of three children has gone so unexpectedly, in such a tragic way and much too soon. It leaves us, his family, speechless and devastated to a point, where communication with the outside world seems almost impossible at times."
Meanwhile the initial, coroner's autopsy of the pop star's body left many questions remain unanswered. The coroner's office says there were no signs of foul play or trauma to the body, but that more tests are needed to determine the exact cause of death. Those include toxicology tests that could take up to eight weeks to complete.
Coroner spokesman Craig Harvey revealed that Jackson was taking prescription medications, but he would not say which ones.
ABC News is reporting that Jackson was "heavily addicted" to the powerful pain killer Oxycontin and received "daily doses" of it and of another pain killer, Demerol.
There are also numerous reports that Jackson received an injection of Demerol one hour before his death.
Meantime, Janet Jackson, wearing dark glasses and driving a Bentley, showed up at her brother Michael Jackson's Holmby Hills estate Saturday morning.
Moving vans and several movers had arrived at Michael's estate earlier in the day. They had dollies and packing equipment, and were apparently retrieving some of Michael Jackson's belongings.
On Friday, the Thursday 911 call from the home was released by fire officials. It shed light on the desperate effort at the mansion to save Jackson's life before paramedics arrived shortly after 12:30 p.m. Jackson died more than an hour later at UCLA Medical Center.
In the recording, an unidentified caller pleads with authorities to send help, but the man offers no clues about why Jackson was down. He tells a dispatcher that Jackson's doctor is performing CPR.
"He's pumping his chest," the caller says, "but he's not responding to anything."
Asked by the dispatcher whether anyone saw what happened, the caller answers: "No, just the doctor, sir. The doctor has been the only one there."
The doctor is identified as Las Vegas cardiologist Conrad Murray, 51, who is licensed in Texas, Nevada and California. He was scheduled to meet, alongside his attorneys, with Los Angeles police detectives at 4 p.m. at an undisclosed location.
He was present at Jackson's home when he went into cardiac arrest, according to police, and was administering CPR when paramedics arrived. Sources also said evidence of Lidocaine, a drug that can be used to treat arrhythmia, was found.
The president of AEG, Randy Phillips, said Murray had been Jackson's personal physician for three years and that Jackson insisted the doctor accompany him to London next month for the first 10 of the fifty shows.
Phillips quoted Jackson as saying: "Look, this whole business revolves around me. I'm a machine, and we have to keep the machine well-oiled." Phillips said Jackson submitted to at least five hours of physicals that insurers had insisted on.
A 6-series BMW convertible belonging to the doctor was towed from the entertainer's rented home "because it may contain medications or other evidence that may assist the coroner in determining the cause of death," Los Angeles police spokeswoman Karen Rayner said.
Investigators spoke to Murray briefly -- apparently at UCLA Medical Center -- but have additional questions for him as part of their investigation.
According to sources, Jackson's family was concerned that his use of prescription drugs could have tragic results. Former Jackson family attorney Brian Oxman, who was with the Jacksons in the hospital emergency room on Thursday, told CNN he had been concerned Jackson was over-medicating.
Dr. Tohme Tohme, who reportedly rejoined Jackson's team as an adviser last week, said Friday he had never seen drugs in Jackson's home.
Tohme said he was with Jackson Monday night at Staples Center, where the pop star was rehearsing for his upcoming London concerts, and that Jackson was "in the best of health."
A vigil and tribute are planned for 6 p.m. at Leimert Park, located at Vernon Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.
