Céline Dion, who will end her run in Las Vegas later this year, is to start a world tour in February 2008 with her first appearance in South Africa. The Canadian-born chanteuse will begin the tour Feb. 14 with a corporate gala banquet at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg, followed by two shows in Pretoria.

(Isaac Brekken/Associated Press) She then moves to the South African resort cities of Durban and Port Elizabeth and has a final gig at the Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West. Dion is touring in support of her album D'elles , with 13 tracks penned by female writers from Quebec and France. Her world tour continues with more than 100 shows in Belgium, France, Germany, the U.K. and Switzerland. She also has made tentative bookings for Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai in April. Dion will be in Canada, with dates yet to be confirmed in Montreal and Toronto, in August 2008.
She has been a resident artist in Las Vegas for five years, but will have her final appearance there Dec. 15.
Dion has sold more than 175 million albums around the world, making her the No. 1-selling female artist of all time. She has 22 albums to her credit, including compilations.
Her only break from performing came in 2000 when she was pregnant with son René-Charles. |
