WE WILL NOT WANT THE CHILDREN BEING EXPLOITED THIS WAY
"And remember, this was before the allegations".
These were the words spoken time and time again on a "tribute" episode that Oprah did for Michael Jackson in the fall of 2009. Those words hinted to viewers that Oprah would NEVER have interviewed Michael AFTER the allegations.
Oprah Winfrey is one of the most influential people on television. She knows this too. Her TV show is watched by millions around the world every day and her words are trusted by many. In 1993, allegations against Michael were made by a family. These allegations were later settled out of court - THE CIVIL SUIT ONLY. Despite Tom Sneddon's best efforts and more than one grand jury, there was not even enough evidence to CHARGE Michael in a criminal court, let alone convict him. In 2005, a second round of allegations. This time, they managed to somehow get them to go to trial - where Michael was found NOT GUILTY of every charge - and there were many. Lord knows they tried.
If the first round of allegations did not even have enough credibility to go to trial and the second were so ludacris and would almost be laughable if they did not come at the expense of a man's spirit, why on earth would Oprah believe them? An educated woman like that, someone who is constantly talking about love and being the best YOU that you can possible be should surely know better, right?
The thing is Oprah experienced traumas when she was younger and this has perhaps left her just slightly unable to rationally look at cases such as this. She seems unable to be unbiased. I for one am truly sorry for what happened to her, but this does NOT give her the right to hold her own trial and be judge and jury in her head and then share her findings on TV with her millions of viewers, many of whom take her word as the gospel.
Her joking around with Lisa Marie Presley as well as LMP's mother was hurtful and unkind as well. In 2005 when Michael was, as some who were there would say, fighting for his life, Oprah was joking around on her show with Michael's ex wife and ex mother in law.
Lisa might have made some mistakes in the things that she said or did as well, but what Lisa had that Oprah didn't was PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with Michael. Lisa NEVER said or hinted that Michael may be guilty of the horrible accusations thrown at him. She would certainly know better than Oprah would who has herself attested to the fact that she was NOT Michael's friend.
What she was was someone who was INCREDIBLY lucky when blessed with an interview with Michael. This interview blew her ratings up. She laughed with him, she joked around with him, she acted as though she was very much on his side. And then she turned her back on him so quickly she must have gotten whiplash because some opportunistic extortionists decided to accuse him of things that there was not even the SLIGHTEST BIT OF EVIDENCE that he did.
And now Oprah is interviewing his family? His mother? His father? And supposedly his CHILDREN? The very same children that Michael kept shielded from the public eye for the sole purpose of protecting them? These children are now going to be interviewed by this same woman who painted a horrible picture of Michael and shared that picture with her millions of viewers?
TMZ has LEAKED PHOTOS of Oprah inside of the Jackson family house. In the house Michael bought for his family. Talking to Michael's mother and father. Looking at pictures of him. Does this seem right to you?
How do we know what Oprah is capable of? She has proven time and time again to not be on Michael's side. To not care about the truth or doing her research before putting her opinion out there.
Oprah's shows are rarely live - these interviews are TAPED and can be edited. How do we know what she will do?
She is also interviewing Lisa Marie again.
Do we, as Michael's fans, wish to support this woman as she once again manages to score exclusive interviews and use Michael to up her own ratings? Do we want her to be able to trample all over Michael's name and then shrug her shoulders, interview his family and get all of us racing to the TV to give her her ratings and watch her show?
For those of you who want to support the family by watching this episode but do not want to give Oprah ratings:
I understand the conflict. You want to support Katherine and the family but you do not want to support Oprah. There are ways to do this too.
Do NOT give Oprah the ratings she so craves! You can support the Jackson family and LMP without giving her the ratings! DVR the episodes if you must watch them, but don't watch them the same day (by doing this, Oprah does not get the ratings). Watch online - NOT on Oprah's website.
It is not up to me to tell you what to do, but as a fan of Michael's, think about what you are doing before you do it. Think about who and what you are supporting. This is not about supporting Michael's family. This is about supporting an episode of Oprah featuring Michael's family who he loved and ESPECIALLY his three children.

If you choose to email, be civil, don't yell, don't swear, act as someone who deserves to be heard out. Remember, when you email as a Michael Jackson fan, your actions to impact Michaels reputation....even if that's unfair, that's the way it is. Talking about Michael's lunatic fans who emailed her yelling and screaming w ill not do much for anyones case. |
